Wardiel

This information has been inscribed by Nayt al-Yad, Historian of Dereth, for addition to the Dereth Archives.

From dark shadows tentacles of madness reached into the cities, with the prophecy of the deaf oracle of Yanshi spoken, alters of death began to appear in the cities once safe havens for good. Darkness began to come across the land, the ethereal clock that was life began to count down to the end. Behind all this was a truly great evil and darkness, Ba’el Zharon. But unable to enter the realm as his mighty form, Ba’el chose a champion for this time of chaos and darkness.

His name was Wardiel the Mighty, a powerful warrior and sorcerer in his own right, this Aluvian knave made a pact with the dark power of Ba’el Zharon. A pact made in blood, for blood, that would end in blood. Gifted powers unheard of in Dereth at the time, Wardiel also wielded the axe Stormrender, a token of favor from Ba’el Zharon. Wardiel wished to rule Dereth and gathered to him minions of Ba’el Zharon at his hideout, an old fortress southwest of Rithwic, where the village Lytelthorpe can be found in the keep's shadow.1 The champion of chaos then selected his generals, Blackthorn, Mortanius, and Kudce.1 With might and magic on his side Wardiel proceeded to bring chaos to the realm.

But the agent of Asheron himself, Sarneho, heard of this threat and gathered the heroes and guilds of the realm under one mighty alliance to crush this threat. And the line was drawn, and the wait began. But Wardiel was not without wits and visited many towns that day of blood.

Wardiel’s rampage carried him and his minions from town to town, where the defense was weak Wardiel was mighty, he slaughtered most of the Sho and Gharu’n lands, with the exception of Samsur who swore fealty to the dark champion. It was in the lands of Aluvia is where the heroes made a stand. The battle of Holtburg shall be sung by the best bards as the town became the focal point of Wardiel’s furry. But in the end the heroes repelled the assault and Wardiel fled the scene. The heroes gave pursuit and tracked Wardiel to Glenden Wood and the battle was fiercely fought. Only then did Wardiel realize that he was greatly outmatched and he turn to flee, but wherever he turned the heroes of Dereth waited.

Quickly running out of mana and life Wardiel the Mighty called to his dark ally, Ba’el Zharon, for aid. But none was forthcoming. For Ba’el Zharon will just as easily help a man up, as well as help him to his grave. With a final stroke Ba’el's champion fell to sword and spell and the realm was safe again, for now. For Ba’el Zharon still waits in the shadows and another champion will surely rise again.
