The quest to obtain a replica of Thorsten Cragstone's Axe or of his Armor begins in Cragstone oddly enough. From the local barkeep you can purchase a "Plea for Help" (may be available in other towns too) from Glysander Cartoth. Glysander's sister went missing some years ago and he believes letters to her from the young Elysa Strathelar may provide a clue to her whereabouts. You'll find Glysander upstairs in Hildor House in Cragstone.
Glysander Cartoth tells you, "Hello, I hope that you are here to help me! My name is Glysander Cartoth. I seek to recover a series of letters that Elysa Strathelar wrote to my older sister, Lania Cartoth. They were friends from childhood on Ispar and they corresponded for some time here in Dereth. One day my sister disappeared. I believe the letters may hold a clue to her disappearance. I will reward you with Experience Points for every letter you bring me. Furthermore, my sister once said something to me that leads me to believe the letters may direct you to items of great worth: Thorsten Cragstone's Armor or his axe! I know not whether these items are truly attainable but..."

Upon talking to Glysander, he'll give you a Bronze Key and a Certificate of Permission, and tell you to head to Brontynn Marshad's "cottage south of Eastham, near the beach". You'll find the cottage at around 15.1n, 65.5e. Inside is a locked chest (with a resistance of 5000, so you'll need the key) containing a Letter of Grief and a tightly scrawled Note.
The letter of grief should be returned to Glysander for 3,000xp, whilst the note tells that Brontynn was heading somewhere north of Imuth Maer Doquin. The explorer Alatar Locke gave this name to the point-of-interest between Yanshi and Dryreach (11,6s 57.7e). In recent times though, a settlement has sprung up just south of these ruins, so the quickest route to them is via the settlement portals at 10.3s, 45.7e. Once there, head north to 10.3s 57.6e where you'll find a tower defended by a bunch of Tumerok Gladiators. One or more of these is carrying the key to the tower, so kill to your satisfaction, and enter. At the top Brontynn is waiting.
Brontynn Marshad tells you, "Those Tumeroks have me trapped here. I am glad their number has been dealt a severe blow!"

Give Brontynn the Certificate of Permission and he'll give you two letters to return to Glysander (Elysa Strathelar's Letter to Lania Cartoth and A Letter of Correspondence - both worth 7,000 xp) and instruction on how to get another letter.
Brontynn Marshad tells you, "Here are two letters I have found. I can tell you where to find another letter, or its exact copy. Find Lia Tze in Baishi. She has a letter in her possession, and I was informed she might have a means for you to obtain a replica of Thorsten Cragstone's Armor. Or you may go to Tou-Tou and seek out a man named Tai Wo. He has a copy of the same letter Lia Tze has and may have knowledge of how to obtain a replica of Thorsten Cragstone's Axe. But beware- do not go to both of these people, for there is bad blood between them! Choose only one of them, for they will not deal with anyone who has had contact with the other. Now I will rest here for a bit and return home. Farewell!"

Pick which item you want a copy of. The armor is only a housing decoaration, you cannot wear it, but the axe is wieldable (if you're over level 20). Visiting either person will net you another Letter of Correspondence and a large ball of wax, with the instructions to use it on the axe or armour when you find it. The letter contains a clue to where the items are hidden:
Asheron has arranged for Thorsten's armor and axe to be secreted away at an ancient Empyrean site. [...] Thus, the chamber that houses Thorsten's Tomb also contains a secret... If it ever were necessary, just remember our girlhood dreams and you may find its direction. Do not venture there however- what lies beyond is well guarded by watchful eyes.
Thorsten's Tomb can be found in the Underground City on the Isle of Tears near Cragstone (take the portal on the beach east of town, then run up the hill to the portal (21.3n 53.9e) or take the portal at the bottom of the Abandoned Mines near Arwic). The Underground City is a big place and easy to get lost in and the Tomb is a couple of levels above where you enter: head west from the portal drop-off to the end of the big open area, then enter the room immediately to the north. Head west, then south and around and up. Run along tho the other end of the room you're in and take the corridor running east.
This will bring you to a small room. Take the east door, and then through the gate in the center of the next room. Head east two rooms, then south, then west. Go up the stairs and immediately go east. Now go north one room, then east all the way to the tomb. One of the outer walls is false and leads to a portal to the Hidden Dungeon.
The Hidden Dungeon is packed full of Copper, Granite and Iron Golems, as well as lots of Liches and Lich Lords. There's a lever operated door that leads deeper into the dungeon. The route is sketchy (lag was terrible in there) but as long as you keep going down you're heading in the right direction. When you find an area with an Obsidian Golem (plus Lich Lords and Irons) you've found the right place. Use the ball of wax on the appropriate relic. Rumour has it there's another letter on some remains here too, but I was alone and just managed to dodge the golems to get the Wax Mould.
With the Wax Mould, return to the NPC who you got the wax off and give it to them to obtain your prize.
